Bangkok Rules +15
In 2010, the United Nations took a landmark step by adopting the Bangkok Rules, the first international standards to explicitly recognise the gender-specific needs of women in prison and in the criminal legal system.
Now, 15 years on, the Bangkok Rules remain as important as ever. They reflect a global consensus—193 countries agreed that women and girls have distinct needs and rights that must be respected and met.
